I recently had the opportunity to experience Just Add Honey Tea Company located in Atlanta’s grand Sweet Auburn Curb Market.
At first glance, upon walking into the curb market (which I’ve only visited a handful of times), I was immediately drawn to this airy modern-retro space where Just Add Honey (JAH) was stationed. The shop has a unique magnetic personality about itself. Fully enclosed in glass, it has a very clean open feel.
I was greeted by the dynamic husband-wife owners of JAH, Brandi & Jermail Shelton, who let me get a whiff and taste of some of their high-selling teas including Strawberry Kiwi and Mango.
I really got excited about all of the different types of loose leaf teas they offer. Among these were Green Caramel, Jasmine, Wild Blueberry, Gun Powder, Georgia Peaches, Black Coconut & Rose Petals.
JAH works with a variety of different beekeepers throughout the U.S. to source the honey they offer as a pure sweetener to their teas. Brandi explained how many people assume they are a honey brand based on the name “Just Add Honey”, but as a result, they have been able to learn about the importance of beekeeping and have partnered with several family-owned beekeepers in hopes of preserving this art form.
JAH takes pride in utilizing family-owned beekeepers throughout the country to provide different flavors such a Eucalyptus honey from California or Wildflower honey from Vermont, just to name a few.
Two years ago, they developed a paid subscription box service providing their subscribers with either a tea, a honey or a combo box including three one ounce bags of tea and a honey.
Just Add Honey can also be found in partner locations throughout the city including the Rialto Center, Grant Park Coffee, Inman Park Coffee the Loews Hotel, and the Intercontinental.
With success of the Sweet Auburn location, JAH has opened a second location at the Hammonds House Museum in the Historic West End area of Atlanta. This partnership is very special to Brandi & Jermail because they were married at the Hammonds House and over a course of time, Brandi envisioned partnering with the museum to open a Just Add Honey café onsite.
With essential contacts and a strategic plan for this new venture, the opportunity unfolded very gracefully and as a vibrant second location for their business, guests are now able to visit the museum while enjoying great tea time, sandwiches, pastries and more
The Sheltons have expanded this concept of tea culture and relationship building while engaging a very supportive community of people who have also found serenity in tea time and conversation through JAH. They are more than just curators of great tea. They are genuinely concerned about giving people an unforgettable experience and making people feel at home.
The Just Add Honey Tea Company Hammonds House café location is currently opened Fridays from 11AM – 5PM and will be expanding to weekend hours from Friday – Sunday beginning May 1st!
