In a galaxy far, far away… so, the latest episode of Star Wars begins. Described by Rayne Roberts, Lucasfilm Story Group Creative Executive, as an “origin story,” Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, takes us back nearly 30 years before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is a daring quest by a band of resistance rebels to save the galaxy from total destruction by the Imperial Forces, using its ultimate weapon, the Death Star.
Not void of the usual array of galactic space vessels, artificial intelligence (robots and computers), deadly weapons and fighting machines, you can also expect a menagerie of new and bizarre creatures and aliens.
Also, just as expected is the plot—girl saves the world (in this case, the galaxy). Yet, Star Wars fans won’t be terribly disappointed in this movie. Afterall, there are surprise appearances from such icons as Princess Leah and Darth Vader (sorry to spoil it!) By the way, we missed you James Earl Jones. And welcome Forest Whitaker. Of course, there is plenty of action, special effects, explosions, and even an occasional laugh.
Lucasfilm and Disney promise more such origin stories in the franchise, with the story of young Han Solo currently in production.
Undoubtedly, the Force lives.
