January 26th, 2016 marked the kick off to the Annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival beginning at the city’s magnificent Cobb Energy Centre. Celebrating 16 years, the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) opens with a stellar gala held in Ballrooms A, B & C of the Cobb Energy Centre. The room was adorned with both draped café round and high tables topped with hot pink plumes in tall vases. The gala commenced around 5PM EST to segway into the premiere film “Remember” at 7:30PM. The film is a thriller that centers around a dementia-stricken Holocaust survivor played by actor Christopher Plummer. Prior to the film premiere, fans of AJFF made their rounds around the ballroom floor to taste a slew of foods and delicacies prepared by close to 20 local top notch dining sponsors for the event.
This year, the film festival has only expanded its reach throughout the city and exceeded its participation since last year. Along with this opening film, this year’s festival held over 80 film views including feature films, documentaries and short films. The festival was hosted all throughout the city in seven metro theatres including Regal Cinemas, SCAD Show, Atlantic Station, United Artists Tara Cinema 4, The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Lefont Sandy Springs, and Georgia Theatre Company Merchants Walk. Its mission reads, “The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) is a cinematic exploration of Jewish experience — Jewish culture and history, life in Israel, and the work of Jewish artists — particularly where these stories intersect with other communities both here in Atlanta and around the world. Seeking to use the power of film to both entertain and educate, AJFF challenges conventional perspectives on complex and challenging issues facing the Jewish and global communities.
This event is the largest Jewish film Festival in the world and the largest film festival to be held annually in the city of Atlanta. Scheduled from January 26 – February 17th, this is definitely one that you would want to be a part of in the future! Sponsors for this amazing festival include, but are not limited to:
The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
Greenberg Traurig, LLP
The Kendeda Fund
