Former Spanx executives Tosha Hays (CIO – Chief Innovative Officer) and Mary-Cathryn Kolb (CEO) are the co-founders of the new innovative fashion brand called Brrr! Brrr! is a brilliant new technology invented and designed by Tosha Hayes that is thoroughly and scientifically made of cooling fabrics which makes it cooling to the touch and refreshingly cool when worn. With many years of leadership experience at Spanx, these women felt it necessary to reinvent the way we define “cool” by developing their own proprietary brand powered by air, that not only looks good, but also feels good on. Their professional experience at Spanx was one that the both say was a great foundation and inspired their current venture; one which paved the way for them to create and execute yet another great thing that would baffle the fashion industry. Mary-Cathryn best explains it like this: “With our fabrics, even when the coolness that you feel dissipates due to absorbing your thermal heat, your body is still degrees cooler than it would be without it. So when I put this on, there is an instant chill that goes through my body because it’s not been on another person, but as I wear it and the touch becomes warmer, it’s actually because my skin is cooler and Brrr! is pulling the heat off of my skin in the process.”
When asked how they have managed to balance all of their responsibilities as wives, mothers and leading business professionals, Tosha Hayes replies, “I find balance by treating it all as one thing…it’s my called my life. Brrr! bleeds into my family and my family bleeds into Brrr! and that’s simply the kind of company that we want to have.” Mary-Cathryn Kolb replies: “I think the days of leaving work at your office doesn’t make sense anymore, because if you are fortunate enough to love what you’re doing, then you absolutely want to share it! So we talk about work with our husbands and our kids know what Brrr! fabric is and certainly take pride knowing that their moms are building something meaningful.”
I got the opportunity to experience what the Brrr! fabric felt like by draping one of their signature Coolwraps over my forearm. To my surprise, the sensation was instantly chilling and amazingly refreshing to the touch. It became even clearer at that point, that this was a genius invention with limitless potential. Frankly, I felt very honored to be afforded the opportunity to meet with these ladies and celebrate with them this exciting new season and launch of their line. Before now, Brrr! has been available exclusively via eCommerce through www.brrr.com. With great excitement and anticipation, Brrr! has announced that they will officially be launching in Neiman Marcus Atlanta an entire collection and to follow in several Dillard’s locations across the country in September. Further, they explained that as soon as they brought their product before the key players at Neiman’s for retail, that Neiman Marcus was totally blown away and agreed to sell their product as Brrr! has a very strong supply chain and is highly capable of having their goods delivered to the store in a sufficient amount of time.
Another absolutely fascinating characteristic about the Brrr! brand is that it is a true lifestyle brand in every sense of the word. As a matter of fact, about two months prior to our interview, Mary-Cathryn delivered a beautiful baby girl and the company has set up a private nursery on site for her to be able to multi-task caring for her baby while she works. As stated before, Hays and Kolb wholeheartedly believe in fusing their lives and values into their brand. Tosha mentions how Brrr! is designed to escort you through your day and provide versatility. She says that they want their customers to be able to wear Brrr! in practical ways from a business meeting to their kid’s soccer practice, to even a fashion event. Additionally, in the next 3 years, Brrr! plans to extend their lifestyle brand to more every day products beyond just things that you wear such as bedding, etc.
There is so much to be said about these amazing women who are full of vision and ambition and are now seeing the fruit of their own hard work. Their dedication to the brand along with their passionate staff are the main ingredients to effectively managing such a task. Mary-Cathryn mentions that Brrr! is an employee-owned brand and that every single employee has ownership in the company assuring that they all rise in success collectively. She goes on to say that passion must be the driving force behind each employee in order to the see the company grow the way it should and they call this “The Brrr! Burn”. With a bright future in the works and an exceptional leader brand such as Brrr!, we can only expect greater things to come in the very near future.
