Deborah Cox, one of the most gifted vocalists in the music industry, is gearing up for her first studio album in seven years. The Grammy nominated singer and Broadway star is focusing on putting the final touches on her album titled Work of Art which is scheduled for release in early 2016.
The first official single from her forthcoming album is titled “More Than I Knew” and is classic Deborah Cox. It’s already a top 15 hit on the Urban Charts. Produced by Thaddeus Dixon, “More Than I Knew” showcases the enormous range and emotion of Cox’s incredible vocals. You can feel the torment as Cox sings, “I miss you so much more than I ever loved you… Maybe I just loved you more than I knew.” The profound cut will appeal to Cox’s core fan base. Says Cox, “There’s a nice cross-section of songs that talk about relationships, self-love, positivity, and this really is where I am right now in my life.”
In addition to Deborah’s new single and forthcoming sixth studio album, the Canadian beauty is also Broadway-bound again after landing the lead role of Josephine Baker in the new musical “Josephine”, which will chronicle the legendary singer Josephine Baker’s life during a special & significant moment in her life (1939 – 1945). It is produced by two-time Tony Award-winner Kenneth Waissman, who produced the original Broadway production of Grease. The musical is scheduled to premiere in 2016. As another recent honor, Deborah Cox was also asked to record the vocals for the Whitney Houston songs that were used in the Lifetime biopic, “Whitney” that premiered Jan. 17, 2015 and received over 11 million views when it premiered. Cox is also set to play Rachel Marron in the musical adaptation of The Bodyguard, to launch fall 2016. The musical will be directed by Thea Sharrock and is based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Oscar nominated film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
Over the course of her successful career, Deborah Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts, including six top-20 Billboard R&B singles, and an impressive twelve #1 hits on Billboard‘s Hot Dance Club Play chart. The Grammy-nominated singer has released 5 studio albums with her sophomore album, One Wish, bringing her mainstream after the world heard her double-platinum anthem, “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here“, which held the record for being the longest running #1 Single on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart for 14 consecutive weeks.
