On Thursday, October 9, 2014, NBC 11 Alive News anchor DeMarco Morgan hosted the 2014 LUX LIST AWARDS honoring Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed, Trumpet Awards founder and broadcasting executive, Xernona Clayton; politician, diplomat, activist and pastor, Ambassador Andrew Young; celebrity photographer, illustrator, director and producer, Derek Blanks; Double Bassist and Senior Division First Place Laureate of the 2014 Annual Sphinx Competition, Xavier Foley; attorney, author, cultural organizer, arts advocate and performer, Michael Molina and stylist and women’s wear designer Natt Taylor.
Presented by Urban Lux Magazine, guests were treated to a grand display of culture as the Bahamas Carnival 2015 Junkanoo live band kicked off the evening. It was a celebration great visionaries and the five year anniversary of Urban Lux Magazine.
Before our honorees took to the stage, attendees also enjoyed a live musical performance from ABC’s Rising Star finalist Shameia Crawford.
Words of gratitude and inspiration were expressed by each of the esteemed honorees.
Honoree Michael Molia performed a moving piece that inspired the crowd.
A standing ovation was given to media pioneer Xernona Clayton after accepting her award.
This exclusive event raised $1,000 for the non-profit organization Students Without Mothers. (studentswithoutmothers.org)
The evening continued with mouth watering cuisine from chef David T DeCuir of the Decuir Gourmet Co., LUX inspired cocktails from Atlantico Rum and Leopold Raffin Cognac and smooth beats from Spontaneous Entertainment.
