Looking for a bit of Britain on South Beach? Or are you more interested in a sleep spot that blends the charm of Art Deco with all that a luxury modern Miami Beach hotel has to offer? Regardless, Urban Lux has you covered.
Recently, I visited two of Miami’s latest and greatest properties. Read on to find out which one will be perfect for your next getaway.
Lord Balfour South Beach
From the old English quotes rippling across the lobby ceiling to the signature tea-infused cocktails, the Lord Balfour South Beach is the place to stay if you’re longing for a touch of London charm mixed with Miami’s unique Latin flavor.
Located on Ocean Drive, the Balfour (named after Lord Arthur Balfour, a former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) is situated on iconic Ocean Drive, steps away from the beach and the nightlife that South Beach is known for. The hotel, which opened in July 2013, is home to 64 guest rooms.
The bold images and pops of color that decorate each of the rooms compliment the modern furniture and bamboo floors. Oh, and the amenities aren’t too shabby either — complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, and beach chairs and umbrellas, and iPads in every room. Love.
Thirsty? Head down to the hotel’s cozy front porch to enjoy one of those signature cocktails I mentioned earlier. My favorite? The Lord Balfour Collins, which is a delicious blend of gin, black tea reduction, lemon juice, and soda water. And coming soon, the Balfour is slated to open the doors to its new fusion restaurant in early summer. lordbalfourmiami.com
Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach
Cozy guest rooms decorated in cool mint greens and grays that make you feel like you’ve stepped into an upscale beach bungalow. The luxurious COMO Shambhala Urban Escape wellness spa. A restaurant that prides itself on delivering the freshest Florida flavors including stone crabs and snapper. Welcome to the Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach.
The Collins Avenue hotel’s roots go back to Miami’s Art Deco days when it opened its doors as the Traymore. After falling into disrepair over the years, the now 74-guest room property reopened as the COMO in March 2014.
If you are looking for a hotel that is close to the SoBe action — but far enough away that you can enjoy a bit of peaceful luxury, the COMO is the place for you. As I mentioned, the guest rooms have a beach chic vibe and are outfitted with all the amenities your heart could desire — think fluffy robes, luxury linens, and Nespresso coffee machines.
During your stay, be sure to stop into the spa for a 75-minute COMO Shambala Massage and take a dip in the rooftop hydrotherapy pool. Another not-to-miss? The picture-perfect main pool. Just lounging next to it while you enjoy your mojito will make you feel glamorous. And the beach is just beyond when you’re ready for a little sun and sand.
After a day of pampering, kick off your evening with a cocktail in the Traymore Bar. This drink spot’s claim to fame is its signature gin drinks, which are created using the Traymore’s selection of 30+ artisanal gins.
Hungry? The Traymore will take care of you. For example, during my visit, I enjoyed the yellowfin tuna tartare and the olive oil poached halibut. Delish.
